Side Lying
Side lying is one of the best exercise positions during pregnancy because it takes the load off the abdominal muscles and lets the side muscles work without the full weight of the baby pressing down. Correct support is essential though — without it the weight of the baby places additional load through the abdominal wall, including where diastasis recti is present. This video demonstrates how to use a bolster and ball to keep the body in correct alignment during side lying exercises. Demonstrated by Peta Titter RN, Advanced Diploma of Pilates, continence nurse and founder of WHEN.
